GAME ONE: Indians 25 - Reds 10 The Indians broke open a close game by scoring 16 runs in the 6th and 7th innings to defeat the Reds 25-10 and force a second game. A steady rain with the temperature in the mid 40's did not cool the Indian bats as they pounded out a league high 33 hits. The Reds had built a 6-3 lead after 3 innings when Chris Barton hit a two out grand slam for the Indians in the top of the 4th putting the Indians on top 7-6. Matt Baker would make it a 9-6 game with a 2 run shot in the 5th. The Reds would get one run back in the bottom of the inning but the Indians would pull away with a six run 6th and then deliver a crushing blow with a 10 run 7th. Scott Rose hit a 2 run HR for the Reds in the 7th as the rain turned to a mist. Rose's HR turned out to be a signal to the Indians that the Reds were not finished for the night. Josh Livingston had 5 hits for the Indians while Matt Wallman, Del Kiser, and Scott Cyr all had 4 hits. Tim Collie lead the Reds with 3 hits. GAME TWO: Reds 19 - Indians 9 The Reds came storming back in the second game to defeat the Indians 19-9 in a 6 inning game and emerge as the tournament champion in the Championship Division. The rain started up once again as the Indians quickly jumped on top 2-0 in the top of the first with RBI singles from Matt Wallman and Scott Sims. The Reds answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning on a Scott Rose double and RBI singles by Clint Bailey and Mark Orshoski. The Indians tied the game at 4-4 in the 2nd when Matt Wallman lashed 2 run triple in the gap in left center field. The game was still tied at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the 3rd. Dave Pollack opened the inning with a single for the Reds and eight singles and a double later the Reds had built a 9 run lead. Jeff Collie had the only extra base hit of the inning for the Reds with a 2 run double as the teams moved to the 4th with the Reds on top 13-4. Neither team would score in the 4th and both teams put up 2 spots in the 5th. Matt Baker lead off the 6th for the Indians with a double as they tried to rally and ended up cutting the Reds lead to 16-9 on a 2 run single by Scott Sims. One out singles from Wayne Collie, John Croft, and Mike Hoisington loaded the bases for the Reds in the bottom of the 6th. Jeff Collie knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly and Tim Collie followed with an RBI single. The runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd on the throw to the plate bringing up Dave Pollack. Pollack lined a single to left scoring both runners and giving the championship to the Reds. Tim Collie, Dave Pollack, Sean Jones, and Wayne Collie lead the Reds with 3 hits each. Scott Sims had 4 hits for the Indians while Matt Baker, Matt Wallman, and Tim Payne added 3 hits. The two games took two and a half hours to complete as both teams combined for 63 runs and 87 hits. The rain stopped as the second game ended. Congratulations to both the Reds and the Indians for an excellent tournament and a record setting evening. |
